What’s Your Excuse?

Sally is excited for her birthday party, but one by one, her friends arrive with excuses for not attending. As her disappointment grows, a surprise twist reveals it was all a joke!
Group
Characters: SALLY, GIRL 1, GIRL 2, GIRL 3, GIRL 4, GIRL 5, ALL GIRLS
(The birthday girl walks in, she is very excited.)
SALLY:
I can’t wait, it’s my birthday tomorrow, and all my friends are coming to my party disco. Hurrah! (She sits on the chair bursting with excitement.) (One by one all her friends arrive to tell her that they cannot come. She begins to get more upset as the different excuses build up.)
GIRL 1:
Hi, happy birthday! I am really sorry but I cannot come to your party. I have to go to my Grandmas birthday party and all the family are going.
SALLY:
Oh dear, that’s a shame, have a lovely time.
GIRL 1:
So sorry, byeee!
GIRL 2:
Hi Sally, I am really sorry but I cannot come to your birthday. I have to go and watch my brother play in a football match, it’s so boring!
SALLY:
Oh dear, never mind, poor you!
GIRL 3:
Hi Sally, happy birthday! I am really sorry but I cannot come to your party. My dad is in hospital and we are all going to visit him.
SALLY:
Oh dear, I hope that he gets better soon but I really wanted you there, you are my bestest friend.
GIRL 3:
I know Sally, so sorry, byee! (they hug)
SALLY:
Pinkie promise you will come next time (GIRLs make a promise with their little fingers)
GIRL 4:
Hi Sally, happy birthday! I am sorry that I cannot come to your party. My auntie is coming to visit us all the way from Australia and mum says I have to be there.
SALLY:
Oh dear, I can’t believe it, so many of my friends can’t come and now you can’t come either.
GIRL 4:
I am so sorry, I would much rather come to your party!
GIRL 5:
Hi Sally, happy birthday! I am so sorry but I cannot come to your birthday party. I was a little bit naughty last night and dad has grounded me.
SALLY:
Oh dear, why did you have to be naughty, now you can’t come to my party, you’ve ruined everything! (GIRL 5 walks away sadly)
GIRL 5:
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you! I will make it up to you.
SALLY:
I can’t believe it, not one of my friends is coming to my party now. (Begins to cry - can improvise) (All girls come rushing in saying..)
ALL GIRLS:
SURPRISE!! SURPRISE!! We are coming to your party, it was just a big joke! We can come!!
SALLY:
(Still miserable) Well it is too late now, the party has been totally cancelled! You have spoilt everything with your silly jokes.
ALL GIRLS:
(Shocked) Oh no!! We can’t believe it - really - are you sure- sorry etc. etc!
SALLY:
(Grins and laughs) Just a joke!!!!! (All girls look surprised and all hug and walk off with arms around each other)
