The Selfish Giant

In a once joyful garden, children play freely until the selfish giant returns. As he learns the importance of sharing, the garden transforms back into a place of happiness.
Group
Characters: GIANT, CHILD 1, CHILD 2, CHILD 3
(The scene opens in a garden where children are playing joyfully.)
CHILD 1:
It is such a sunny day and such I am so glad that the giant is away and we can play here.
CHILD 2:
We can roll down the grassy banks and there is fruit on the apple and peach trees to eat.
CHILD 3:
And we can hide under the pink blossoms and hear and talk to the happy birds singing. This is such a great place to play.
GIANT:
What are you doing here? This is my garden, my very own garden, I will not allow anyone to play in it, only me, do you understand? Look at the sign, what does it say ‘Trespasses will be Prosecuted!’ Now off you go!
CHILD 1:
Well, Well will have to play out on the busy road again. What a selfish giant not wanting to share with us.
CHILD 2:
We can’t roll and play and play and explore as we did in the garden. It’s not much fun playing on the road!
GIANT:
I cannot understand why the Spring is so late in coming to my garden. Look everything is dark and brown, there is no sun, I cannot hear the birds singing and there is no blossom or fruit on the trees. I can’t look out of the window anymore it is too sad to see! I will have a good long sleep and hope that the summer will come soon.
CHILD 3:
I haven't seen the giant for ages perhaps he has gone away again. Let’s creep back into the garden.
CHILD 1:
Oh look at how brown and dull it is, what has happened to the garden? It looks so miserable. It’s not the same anymore.
CHILD 2:
Well at least we can climb the trees. Come on!
CHILD 3:
Look the leaves are turning green. Look the sun is coming out and the summer is coming, it’s magic!
GIANT:
Is that a guitar I hear strumming, I can’t believe what I can see (peering through the window) thank goodness the summer has come at last. Oh the children have crept back in, they are having such a lovely time playing in the blossoms. The flowers are laughing on the grassy banks, the sun is glorious, now I know why the Spring did not come, I was too selfish and miserable! Those children have brought the happiness and summer to my garden again.
CHILDREN:
Aaargh! The giants returned, quick through the hole in the wall!
GIANT:
Oh no, they are running away, come back, come back!! Oh look the winter has come already, look at my cold, brown garden.
GIANT:
I have a good idea, I want to share my garden and have friends again. If I make a lovely picnic and put a picnic rug out on the cold, rainy grass perhaps the children will come back again.
CHILD 1:
What the Giant doing, why on earth would he put a picnic out on a cold winters day?
CHILD 2:
The rug looks comfy though, we can creep in quietly and take a peep.
CHILD 3:
Ooooh look, Sandwiches! Chocolate fingers! Strawberries! Caramel cookies! My favourite! Delicious! Thank you Mr. Giant.
GIANT:
I thought the summer would come if I was kind again. I will take down this sign and you can come and play whenever you want to. Bring your friends too!
CHILDREN:
Thank you Mr.Giant. You can be our bestest friend!
GIANT/CHILD:
And Autumn and winter never came again, summer reigned in the beautiful garden and we both have a new friend to play with.
