Join two brothers as they embark on a thrilling adventure in their backyard, testing a new recruit for their secret agent club with daring challenges and imaginative play.
Duologue
Characters: SAM, TOM, EDWARD
(Two brothers aged 10 and 12 live in the country in a vicarage with a huge garden and a small forest. They are in their own play world of mystery and secret agents, and need to enrol another agent into their club, who must be tested before he can join.)
SAM:
We’ve got to be secret agents!
TOM:
Secret Agents, WOW, that’s great, when do we start?
SAM:
Now! I’ve just had a message telling us what we have to do
TOM:
Oh fantastic, who was the message from?
SAM:
Well if I told you that, it wouldn’t be secret would it!
TOM:
OK, good point, have you met this er… person?
SAM:
I just call him .. ‘Number 1’
TOM:
Wow, who’s number 2?
SAM:
Me, and you’re number 3
TOM:
Can’t I be number 2?
SAM:
No he said I had to be number 2, and you had to be number 3
TOM:
Ok then, is there a number 4?
SAM:
No, it’s just us, for now .. and we need to recruit a number 4
TOM:
Where from, how do we know if they’re any good at being secret Agents?
SAM:
We don’t! That’s why they have to pass the test!
TOM:
Wow, what test?
SAM:
We have to make one up that will really test their skills as a secret agent.
TOM:
I know, what about they have to run faster than me, I’m really fast, and if they can run faster, then they get in, how about that?
SAM:
Not dangerous enough, think of something else … um .. I know how about they have to stay in the graveyard all night to show how brave they are?
TOM:
Naah, too easy, we’d do that in a flash
SAM:
Ok, how about we climb the tree with our den right to the top, and he has to come too and he gets tied to the top until we release him?
TOM:
Yeah!! Nobody’s ever done that before, you get the rope, I’ll find the next Number 4!!
SAM:
Ok, Dad’s got some in the barn, I’ll get it. (Sam exits)
TOM:
(Edward comes walking by) Hi Edward, what are you up to, do you want to join our club? We’re secret agents. We need a ‘Number 4’.
SAM:
(Sam enters) Oh, hi Edward, (whispering secretly to TOM) did you ask him?
TOM:
Yep! May I introduce the new applicant for Number 4! (to Edward) Come this way please, you need to pass a test first before you’re accepted into the club, Sam, did you get the rope?
SAM:
Yes, number 3 I have the rope.
TOM:
Excellent, number 2, then let’s go. (They all walk into a dark forest)
SAM:
Edward. Sshh! I can hear something. It could be a wolf. (Trying to scare Edward) Or a bear, anything really, you never know what’s in these woods, I’ve heard people disappear in here! Come on Edward don’t be scared it’s your test to be our new ‘number 4’
TOM:
Here it is! (They start climbing the tree) Edward you go up first. The rope? Ah it’s just in case we have to use it to get down.
SAM:
Wow, not many kids can climb this tree, most of them are (climbing up) .. really scared of heights.
TOM:
(They reach the top) Edward you have to sit on that branch, and we’ll tie you to it to make sure you don’t fall off, ok?
SAM:
(Tieing Edward to the tree) OK, that’s really tight now. Edward don’t panic this is your test. We going to go down to the bottom, and you stay here for 20 minutes without making a sound, we‘ll come back up and untie you, then you can be number 4, ok?
TOM:
(Both climbing down) What shall we do later?
SAM:
Didn’t Mum say we were moving or something?
TOM:
(They hear Mum calling) Is that Mum, oh, yeah the removals van must be here, of course we’re moving to London tonight, that’ll be amazing, what time are we leaving
SAM:
(They reach the bottom) I think Mum said at half 5? What’s the time?
TOM:
It’s twenty past, oh my god, we’d better hurry or Mum will go crazy, quick we’d better run Number 2.
SAM:
Yes sir! Number 3. (They both run off) The End!!
