Fish

In an aquarium, JOEY, a solitary fish, is joined by GOLDIE, his new tank-mate. As they navigate their new life together, hilarity ensues amidst the challenges of being pets.
Duologue
Characters: JOEY, GOLDIE
JOEY:
Just look at the time. Not a flake of fish-food in sight. (Looking out) Oy Kid Pack in playing on your computer and feed me, will ya'? - Hello. The other kid's just walked in. I'll get her attention. Wait a sec. She's carrying something. She's emptying it into the tank. Argh! (GOLDIE plunges in.)
GOLDIE:
Look Out
JOEY:
What's your game'?
GOLDIE:
Wow! Big tank! Alright, are you?
JOEY:
Who the hell are you?
GOLDIE:
I'm your new tank-mate
JOEY:
I'm sorry. I live alone.
GOLDIE:
Not any more, you don't. Wow! Look at that, they've got a castle! (Goes Over to inspect it.)
JOEY:
Oy! That's my place! You're trespassing!
GOLDIE:
You're a bit uptight, arent ya? Chill out, man, or your scales’ll drop off.
JOEY:
This is totally out of order
GOLDIE:
Where do you kip, then? I'll take the turrets, if that's okay with you. I like the view.
JOEY:
You like the view? You're a fish, not a tourist! What are you doing here anyway?
GOLDIE:
The little kid - the girl - she won me at the fair. Three ping-pong balls into three bowls and I was hers. (Looking out) Urgh! He's ugly. Who's that?
JOEY:
That's her brother. Watch out for him. When he gets bored he gets out the drinking straws and starts bubble warfare.
GOLDIE:
No
JOEY:
When he's in a really bad mood, he has been known to suck up a third of the tank.
GOLDIE:
What a monster
JOEY:
The day he got a bad report from school, I nearly drowned in the shallows, I can tell you. And she's as bad. Emptied her pencil-case into the tank yesterday. Tried to colour me blue. Said that way I'd look like a tiny dolphin
GOLDIE:
How you must have suffered
JOEY:
You’ll never know.
GOLDIE:
Look, I don't want to be any bother to you. If I'm really a problem, I'll just stay up the far end of the tank behind that coral. You won't even know I'm there. I'm very quiet. Just a few bubbles.
JOEY:
No. You're alright. We're in this thing together. I was getting a bit bored with my own company anyway, to tell you the truth. I can't even get fed on time. (Looking out) Oy! Kid! Food! Food!!
GOLDIE:
Ah, look. The little girl's coming over to feed us.
JOEY:
(Hides) What? Agh!
GOLDIE:
It's okay. No pencil-case. Just food.
JOEY:
Thank cod for that. — That’s it Girlie. Tip it in, whatever it is. Funny she's being kind for once. It's the dad that usually feeds me. (Something plunges to the bottom of the tank like a bomb. The fish leap away from it)
GOLDIE:
Agh! It's a bomb! It's a bomb! I'm too young to fry!
JOEY:
I knew it! Rotten kid (To GOLDIE) Stay back! I'll check it out. (Takes a look) It's all right. It's not a bomb.
GOLDIE:
What is it, then?
JOEY:
It's a quarter of pineapple chunks. - Oy! Girlie. How are we supposed to eat these? They’re like granite to us!
GOLDIE:
Urgh! They'll melt and make the water go all cloudy. Then we’ll get sugar-poisoning! Agh! Help!
JOEY:
Oh, shut up panicking, you! Here's the mother.- That's it, Love. Scoop em up. (Both fish leap back as the imaginary giant hand enters the tank to remove the Sweets)
GOLDIE:
Oo! Dish-wash hands
JOEY:
It's her old man's turn to do the vacuuming this month.
